Helena Flatwater Paddling Group 5/18/10

Posted on May 18th, 2010

Hey paddlers,

Two weeks in a row of lousy weather.  Maybe this nice weather will hold through this Tuesday so we'll try again for the Reservoir.  Meet at 6:00 at the Reservoir on York Road

Hope to see you on the water.

Susan

General info for folks new to the group:

Our flatwater paddling group is a group of folks who informally get together on Tuesday evenings for a couple hours to paddle on various open bodies of water in the Helena area  We've paddled at the Regulating Reservoir, from York Bridge going both north & south, from the Causeway on Lake Helena Drive, out at Canyon Ferry, and at the Gates of the Mountains. We try to be on the water by 6:15.

People need to have their own boats, life jackets, paddles, etc. and be able to be responsible for themselves.  You should also be pretty comfortable on open water and in dealing with wind and occasional choppy water. It's a fun, sociable group of people and we all enjoy paddling for fun and recreation.  We also enjoy getting more people involved in kayaking.  Occasionally we plan trips on weekends.

Each Tuesday evening we decide where to meet the following week and I've volunteered to e-mail reminders about the meeting spot. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Helena Flatwater Paddling Group Update

Posted on May 4th, 2010

Hi paddlers,

For those of you who thought about coming with us last Tuesday but decided that the weather looked iffy, you missed a fine paddling evening!!  Three of us enjoyed a wind-free paddle on the Helena Reservoir.  The wind was blowing hard when we arrived but stopped for almost 2 hours just as we put on the water. It started blowing again at 8:00. The herons are incubating eggs in their nests. The water level is really high, too.

We are going to the Reservoir again this Tuesday, May 11.  Meet at 6:00 p.m.

Directions:  The Reservoir is on York Road at the top of the hill on the left, after you pass the golf course and Lake Helena Drive

Hope to see you on the water.

Susan

Please email tim@thebasecamp.net with any questions. Thanks!

Helena Flatwater Paddle Group Update

Posted on April 13th, 2010

Hello all flatwater paddlers,

We are getting ready to start our regular Tuesday evening paddling for 2010..........if the weather ever gets warm enough!!  A few of us went out on March 23, but the weather has not cooperated since then!  I will eventually start sending out a weekly e-mail with the details of where we plan to paddle each week but it may be May before we really get going.  We will probably start at the Regulating Reservoir and watch the herons progress through nest building, egg laying, and chick raising.

If you are getting this e-mail, it is because 1) you paddled with us last year, or 2) your name has been passed on to me as someone who is interested in the possibility of joining our Flatwater Paddling Group.  If you are not interested in being on our e-mailing list, please let me know and I can remove your name.

For those new to the group, here is a short blurb about our group:

See you on the water,
