Friday November 26th: Free family evening program, the Owl Prowl, from 7:30-9 pm. Following a short discussion of owl ecology, participants will head out to call for owls. Be prepared to be outdoors for 60 minutes. Hot cocoa will be provided afterward. Pre-register by calling (406) 294-5099.

Description: Prairie Winter Walk About Date: Saturday, 1/15/11 Location: near Billings Public Land Management: Cove Canyon Grasslands (private) Trail Miles: 5-10 Difficulty: easy Group Size: 15 Reservations By: 1/10/11 Meeting Time and Place: 9:00 a.m. at Rocky Mountain College behind Fortin Education Center. (off of Rimrock). Leaders: Carolyn Sevier 238-7479 or 669-8880, carolyn@rimcountry.org and Rita Solem Come explore the unique features of the prairie in winter. This walk will take place at Cove Canyon grasslands, a 3,000 acre section of land near Billings, and will feature the native plateau grasses, a series of sandstone canyons, and localized ponderosa pine woodlands. Expect low-intensity cross-country travel and some navigation of canyon areas. We are sure to spot, hear and see signs of native bird and mammal species along the way. Plan to carpool from the meeting place.

November 20th: Animal tracks: discover the fine art of animal tracking, be it in mud or possibly in snow! Learn how to tell the difference between a cat and dog track, or a rabbit and weasel. Participants will make plaster casts to bring home.
