Ski Waxing Resources at The Base Camp

Posted on December 3rd, 2010

Good morning,

Thanks to all the folks that attended our Toko Wax seminar with Randy Beckner.  It was great to see you all at the shop and share stories of great early season skiing.

Mac Pass is groomed and ready to go this morning with new snow!  Temps are in the high 20's, RH 97% and winds light.  Try out Swix LF7(efficiency) CH7(economy) or Toko LF Red(efficiency) S3 Red(economy) for the best glide for your weekend adventures and training.

Toko Ski Wax Clinic with Randy Beckner

The Base Camp is always available to offer assistance and supplies for all your ski tuning needs.  We offer a full array of wax products, brushes and preparation accessories from Swix and Toko.  We also offer edge tuning accessories and waxing tables so that you can put your own personal touch on your skis.  And don't forget our full service tuning department.  Stop down to the shop and learn about ski grinding options to freshen your older bases or prepare for the racing season!

We will not have the weekly spenst at Carroll hill. If the golf course is groomed, we will have a headlamp ski around at 6pm. Just a chance to get on snow and ski together. If we have grooming and decent snow, we will have a 10am ski session at the golf course on Saturday. Let's hope for a few more inches.

Helena’s Historic Landscapes- Nov 4- 6:30pm

Posted on October 28th, 2010

Helena's Historic Landscapes:

The Sleeping Giant and Gates of the Mountains

Thursday, November 4, 6:30 p.m. The Base Camp-Helena

The Sleeping Giant rises majestically outside of Helena along the same route that Lewis and Clark took on their journey to the Pacific.

Many things have changed in our world since their journey took place but one thing we can protect is the landscape Lewis and Clark saw on their journey with the Sleeping Giant and Gates of the Mountains Additions Wilderness Campaign.

Working with local landowners, civic groups and Helena citizens, this campaign has been gaining steam and the Montana Wilderness Association is bringing the Giant to you in an informative question and answer presentation. With historical photos, information about the status of the campaign and ways you can help work to make this landmark forever safe.

Do you have your own pictures of these historic landscapes? Post them on our facebook page!

Mac Pass Trail Work Day-Oct 30 Noon Helena

Posted on October 27th, 2010

This Saturday, October 30, we will meet at 12:00 noon at the trail head for more trail work. The following work needs to be done:

Cut down weeds and grass

Remove rocks

Remove fallen trees on trails

Old Cabin has not had any work done to it yet, and Meadow Loop only needs weed whacking. Everything else is done. This may not seem like much work, but it will take some time.

Please bring whatever tools you may have for this work. Thanks to Mark Hall's effort in getting the chain saw and 2 weed whackers repaired, we will have those tools available. There will be 2 additional weed whackers.  The most time consuming work is weed whacking, so bring one if you can.

Consider bringing ear plugs, snow boots, and an orange vest. There is 2-3 inches of snow, and hunting season is under way. I've set the noon start time to allow the majority of hunting to finish.

Bill Hammer and Dave Tuss joined me for trail work Wednesday. We weed whacked, tossed some rocks, and removed some dead fall on Little Porcupine, and it is now ready for grooming once we get more snow. It was very satisfying to look back at the work we had done, as we could compare it to the work that needed to be done further up the trail.

Hope to see you there.
