Mac Pass Trail Work Day-Oct 30 Noon Helena

Posted on October 27th, 2010

This Saturday, October 30, we will meet at 12:00 noon at the trail head for more trail work. The following work needs to be done:

Cut down weeds and grass

Remove rocks

Remove fallen trees on trails

Old Cabin has not had any work done to it yet, and Meadow Loop only needs weed whacking. Everything else is done. This may not seem like much work, but it will take some time.

Please bring whatever tools you may have for this work. Thanks to Mark Hall's effort in getting the chain saw and 2 weed whackers repaired, we will have those tools available. There will be 2 additional weed whackers.  The most time consuming work is weed whacking, so bring one if you can.

Consider bringing ear plugs, snow boots, and an orange vest. There is 2-3 inches of snow, and hunting season is under way. I've set the noon start time to allow the majority of hunting to finish.

Bill Hammer and Dave Tuss joined me for trail work Wednesday. We weed whacked, tossed some rocks, and removed some dead fall on Little Porcupine, and it is now ready for grooming once we get more snow. It was very satisfying to look back at the work we had done, as we could compare it to the work that needed to be done further up the trail.

Hope to see you there.

Mac Pass Trail Work Update-Work Day Oct 30

Posted on October 20th, 2010

Five club members (Gregg & Wendy Wheeler, Larry Dolan, Mark Hall and myself) did trail work on a very pleasant Sunday. Here is the report:

Haul Road - Weed whacked, rocks removed, no fallen trees, snow fence in working order

Big Pine - Weed whacked, rocks removed, fallen trees removed

Meadow - Rocks removed, fallen trees removed, snow fence repaired. Some areas have tall and thick grass that was not weed whacked.

Little Porcupine started, but not completed

Kelly Hump Road - Rocks removed, no fallen trees

Microwave Road had some culverts installed and existing culverts had their inlets cleaned out. It also had water bars, installed; not as severe as a speed bump, but sure looked like it would serve the purpose of draining water off the road

Club weed whackers and chain saws are in the shop being serviced, and should be ready to go for the next trail day. I'd like to schedule the next trail work day on October 30 at 12:00. Work itinerary is:

Weed whack Meadow loop

Old Cabin will need weed whacking, rock removal, and removal of any fallen trees

This work could take some time, as weed whacking will likely be slow. I will send a reminder next week. If anyone has any suggestions for other trail work, you are welcome to comment.

Bill Hammer (possibly others) and I should be able to finish Little Porcupine next week, so hopefully that will be out of the way for the weekend.

I hope we have another beautiful day for the next trail maintenance session. See you there.

We will be doing a hard work out (level 4) ski striding up the blood sweat and tears trial (just kidding). Oh well, should be fun. On Saturday, 9am at the Park Bakery Parking lot we are meeting for those interested in roller skiing. We will drive over to the frontage road past Montana City. I have some extra roller skis one pair has NNN and the other with Salamon classic. This wouldn't be a learning how to though. Hope to see everyone at the meeting tonight.

Then 3-by drills with focus of pre-load on the second step. Then cross over drill x 3 each side with focus on "pre-load again. Next week will be the spenst hill again but we will also work on the roller ski camp. Sorry I can't make it as I had another commitment.

Master work out will meet at Dump Gulch trail head tomorrow evening at 6:10 for a poling ski striding work out.

On another note; we will be having the annual roller ski camp in Jackson this fall. We need to start planning on who want to come and how many days. It will be in Oct during a school break. Last year we rented a Condo and eveyone pitched in on the cooking. Lets work out the detail after practice this thursday. So if your interested in the roller ski camp please try and come tomorrow.
