Kids Free XC Ski Lesson #2- Jan 29- Red Lodge

Posted on October 30th, 2010

With such a good turnout last year, BRTA is beefing up it’s lesson program this year with a stronger, more organized schedule. We have room for more kids, so contact Elise Fouts: ehfouts@msn.com or Les Hedquist: 425-3804 to register. Beginning classes are aimed at new, beginning or second year children that need to refresh their skills. New this year, is an “advanced” class for stronger, truly proficient skiers. Students with just one beginning class behind them do not qualify for this class.

Moms and dads: we also intend to provide informal ski lessons for you during the kids lessons. No need to stand around and miss the fun. Rentals available at Sylvan Peak if you need them.

Lessons are four consecutive Saturdays, Jan. 22, 29-Feb. 5, 12

Mac Pass Trail Work Day-Oct 30 Noon Helena

Posted on October 27th, 2010

This Saturday, October 30, we will meet at 12:00 noon at the trail head for more trail work. The following work needs to be done:

Cut down weeds and grass

Remove rocks

Remove fallen trees on trails

Old Cabin has not had any work done to it yet, and Meadow Loop only needs weed whacking. Everything else is done. This may not seem like much work, but it will take some time.

Please bring whatever tools you may have for this work. Thanks to Mark Hall's effort in getting the chain saw and 2 weed whackers repaired, we will have those tools available. There will be 2 additional weed whackers.  The most time consuming work is weed whacking, so bring one if you can.

Consider bringing ear plugs, snow boots, and an orange vest. There is 2-3 inches of snow, and hunting season is under way. I've set the noon start time to allow the majority of hunting to finish.

Bill Hammer and Dave Tuss joined me for trail work Wednesday. We weed whacked, tossed some rocks, and removed some dead fall on Little Porcupine, and it is now ready for grooming once we get more snow. It was very satisfying to look back at the work we had done, as we could compare it to the work that needed to be done further up the trail.

Hope to see you there.
